Updates and changes to look forward to with Microsoft’s Windows 10

23 June 2015 · by R & G Technologies

Windows 10 will finally be available to the masses on July 29, 2015. The much-anticipated release of Microsoft’s flagship product has been the talk of the town for the last 12 months.

Microsoft is offering existing Windows 7 and 8.1 users a free upgrade. You can visit windows.com or sign up using the popup you may have received from Windows.

After the poor uptake of Windows 8, has Microsoft finally hit a winner with Windows 10?

It’s the modern operating system for the modern, productivity-orientated professional and I give it a 8/10 rating.

So why is Windows 10 a winner? What are the upcoming changes you can be excited about?

Start menu is back

One of the most talked about omissions from Windows 8 was the much-loved start menu. The good news is that it’s back in Windows 10 and it’s better than ever before.

Use the start menu to easily find your most frequently-used apps. Customise and personalise the tiles exactly the way you want.

Personalise your experience with Cortana

Cortana is your new personal digital assistant. Built right into the Windows 10 experience, Cortana can help you by informing you of news and information, answering questions, checking traffic and scheduling reminders - all from the taskbar.

Here are just a few things Cortana can do for you:

Easy login with Windows Hello

Windows Hello recognises you once you sit down at your computer so you can log in without typing in a password. It works by using facial and/or fingerprint recognition software to confirm your identity. Use Windows Hello to quickly and securely sign in and get access to your personal stuff in seconds.

Increase productivity with Microsoft Edge web browser

Microsoft Edge is a brand new web browser designed to help you be more productive. It’s incredibly fast and compatible with the modern web.

It includes three awesome capabilities:

New apps to help you work in a more modern way

There is a rich set of apps built right into Windows 10, so you’re able to be effective right out of the box. A brand new version of Office that has been built specifically for Windows 10 is exciting. Your favourite Office apps are now touch first and optimised for viewing on all devices.

The fast and fluid experience makes it a breeze to use Office on your tablet. Use Office while you’re onsite or in client meetings to quickly take notes, make edits and write down comments.

Windows 10 is built for today’s modern computing

Windows 10 crosses devices, delivers a personal experience and helps get more things done. A free upgrade is available July 29. What are you waiting for?
